I know this isn’t your usual golf topic, but because my husband is a huge NASCAR Kevin Harvick fan, I thought this was a great opportunity to write about something he would actually appreciate. So, this one’s for you Reuben.
Kevin Michael Harvick is an American professional stock car racing driver. He currently competes full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 4 Ford Fusion for Stewart-Haas Racing.
Harvick began his NASCAR career in 1995 and is the third of only five drivers that have won a championship in both the Sprint Cup Series and the Xfinity Series, and the fifth of only thirty-one drivers to win a race in each of NASCAR’s three national series with over 100 race wins across three national divisions.
Harvick’s at the height of his career with his recent win making it his seventh this season alone and his 44th win of his NASCAR Cup Series career.
NASCAR’s Kevin Harvick has a heart few have seen as he’s mostly known as being NASCAR’s walking, talking, racing conglomerate.
However, Kevin is more than just a racing conglomerate; he’s the founder of what he holds dearest to his heart, the Kevin Hart Foundation (KHF).
Established in 2010 by Harvick and his wife, DeLana, the mission of the Kevin Harvick Foundation (KHF) is to support programs that enrich the lives of children throughout the United States.
“There are many children who have dreams of becoming a race car driver, a policeman, a doctor or scientist, but don’t see a way to achieve those dreams,” said Kevin. “DeLana and I want to provide opportunities to children who might not realize their potential and give them the courage to pursue their dreams.”
The foundation works to not only improve the quality of life, but to help underprivileged youth find and realize their dreams by supporting programs such as the Kevin Harvick Athletic Scholarship Fund at California State University, Bakersfield, a camper cabin at Victory Junction, Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Kevin’s Krew.
The KHF raises money for these programs hosting charity events, many of them being PGA golf tournaments including the upcoming Harvick4Heroes PGA REACH Charity Pro-Am.
This event takes place on October 1st, 2018 at Charlotte Country Club and is being sponsored by the PGA Reach Carolinas Foundation.
The PGA REACH Carolinas Foundation was founded in 2003 as a 501(C) 3 charitable organization to provide character building experiences to children of every race, creed, gender and socio-economic background. The foundation provides assistance to PGA Junior League Golf, the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship and numerous local junior events and tournaments
The field is limited to the first 22 teams (4 amateurs + 1 PGA Professional). Teams may invite their own CPGA Professional, or the Carolinas PGA can provide one for your team.
18-hole stroke play. Teams will record one low gross and one low net score. “Shamble” or “Texas Scramble” on the tee shots where the best shot is selected, and team members then play their own ball for the remainder of the hole.
Seniors and Female Participants will play from a separate set of tees.
Subject to change, but most competitors will play Charlotte CC’s tees measuring 6,460. Senior amateurs and females will have separate shorter tees.
Prizes will be awarded to top finishing teams and closest-to-the-hole contest winners.
Host Site – Charlotte Country Club
Designed by Donald Ross, Charlotte Country Club opened its first nine holes in 1910, with the second nine completed five years later. In 2007, Ron Pritchard completed restoration of the course, which is located 4 miles east of uptown Charlotte, in the Plaza-Midwood neighborhood.
Kevin Harvick was born in Bakersfield, Calif. For his kindergarten graduation, Harvick received a go-kart and began his racing career. In the 10 years that he competed on the go-kart circuit, he learned the value of dedication and discovered the joy of success that would transform into the fierce determination that now defines him. On the track, the MENCS champion is known for his aggressive driving, but off the track his affable attitude and ever-present smile have earned him the nickname “Happy.”
